HOWL'S MOVING CASTLE

The castle itself is a thing of wonder, a skewed construction of houses, smoking chimneys, cannons, turrets, wheels, pulleys, metal teeth and dragon wings, carried along on a pair of scrawny, tottering bird-like legs. It's a Heath Robinson/Terry Gilliam kind of invention and star exhibit of the latest cartoon from Hayao Miyazaki, whose Oscar-winning Spirited Away made him both bankable and admired in the west.
The Japanese director is working from a novel by English children's author Diana Wynne Jones, so there's nothing to alienate our kids - it's the sort of colourful, simple, charming cartoon that Disney would once have put out, but with a fresher, cleaner look and less sentimentality.
